India really is Shining! When it comes to sports, Indian sports persons are really making waves all across the spectrum. Two weeks back it was Rohit Khandelwal who made us proud by winning Mr World 2016, Now it is the turn of Cherupalli Vivek Teja who became the World Karate Champion (All Styles) at the Martial Arts World Championships in Sydney, Australia on Sunday.
Vivek Teja is from Nalgonda Dist and completed his B.Tech in Electronics and Communications. He has been a martial arts fighter for 14 years in his professional career. He wanted to represent India in boxing at the Olympics. Hto become the first Indian to have acquired expertise in all martial art styles in the world. These include karate, kick boxing, Muay Thai, Kalaripayattu, Silambam, MMA!
This was no easy feat by any means. Karate is not an Olympic sport. This means that there aren't many sponsors available who would support the sport persons during international competitions. Vivek overcame all these challenges in his journey towards this great moment. It is sad to note that such a talented individual is not getting any media attention at all. Maybe it is time we looked past cricket and gave other sports a chance to entertain us.
So far he has contributed in the free training with the support of Nalgonda Dist. superintendent of police for more than 12,000 women and girls in self-defense techniques. Equipping them to face all situations and protecting themselves both through defense and offense. Check out a glimpse of Vivek Teja In Action.
