Remember the children's magazine Chandamama? The 70-year-old publication that was suspended in 2013 has now launched a website where we could find their original editions online, all available for free download. This monthly children's magazine that published fables, mythology and countless other stories, stringing them together with beautiful illustrations and common moral themes was first printed in Telugu and Tamil, but then expanded to printing in twelve total Indian languages as well as English.
Originally, "Chandamama" was started in Telugu by B.Nagi Reddy and Chakrapani, noted Telugu Film Producer's. It was edited by Kodavatiganti Kutumba Rao, a literary colossus in Telugu Literature, who edited it for 28 years, till his death in August 1980. In 2007, Chandamama was bought by Geodesic, a Mumbai-based software services provider company. The online editions available in the site include versions in English, Telugu and Hindi, but the website has made a note that they plan to include Sanskrit, Assamese, Oriya, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali and Tamil soon enough.
All the editions were unique in their own style and preserves a piece of history. The beautiful illustrations paired with the stories have many different styles to match the wide range of tales. It is of course nostalgia for all the 90s kids to go across this magazine which made their childhood awesome. What are you waiting for? The site is live now, go ahead, download the magazines and travel back in time. Website : www.chandamama.in
