Here's Everything You Need To Know About The Grand Belum Caves In Kurnool!

Nature has gifted so many scenic places in Andhra Pradesh, Belum Caves is one of it. Belum Caves is the largest tourist cave in the Indian subcontinent and the longest caves in plains of Indian Subcontinent known for its stalactite and stalagmite formations.

Belum Caves are located at Belum Village in Kolimigundla Mandal of Kurnool District which is 106km from Kurnool and 85 from Ananthapur. Although the caves were known to the locals for a long time, they were properly explored and presented to the world by a British surveyor Robert Bruce Foote. Later in 1982-84, a team of German speleologists headed by H Daniel Gebauer conducted a detailed exploration of the caves.

There are different sections in caves named by Pillidwaram, Kotilingalu Chamber, Patalaganga, Saptasvarala Guha, Dhyan Mandir, Thousand Hoods, Banyan Tree Hall, Mandapam.

Awards for Belum Caves:

• In, 2003, APTDC won the prestigious "National Tourism Awards" instituted by Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of India, for its initiatives in developing and promoting Belum Caves.

• Belum caves was also adjudged the best destination award at the Tourism and Travel Fair held at Bangalore in 2002.
