From this coming December, water supply to common citizen is going to be cashless. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply Board will launch cashless transactions for the convenience of 9.65 lakh consumers in the city. Though the water board has initially proposed to introduce cashless transactions through T-Wallet, the move did not materialise due to various reasons.
The tenders which were floated to implement a cashless method and they will be finalised by the end of October. The cashless transactions will be launched after the completion of this process. This will probably be started from the month of December. Usually, the board issues bills and collects money through meter readers, who go to each home with e-Pos machines and give them bills. Then the consumers pay the money towards the water charges. According to the officials, the city is divided into 800 dockets, which have connections ranging from 1,500 to 2000. This results in the lag of issuing the bills. Hence the board has now decided to reduce connections in each docket to 750 or 1000 consumers. This will reduce the effect that this delay will have on the revenue of the board.
In this new system, bills will be issued from 1st to 15th every month. They will accept payment through debit or credit cards from consumers who will now just receive an SMS alert. GHMC was initially the first utility department in the city to implement cashless transactions.
