Tree Ganesha, The Latest Trend In Eco-Friendly Idols That We All Should Be Following

The top 3 festivals that everyone enjoys are Vinayaka Chavithi, Deepavali, and Sankranthi. We are used to celebrating Vinayaka chavithi in a grand manner and it literally became a competition to get a beautiful statue of Vinayaka with more beautiful pandals.

With our obsession to show off, we literally are killing the environment around us. Every year over 50,000 idols made of plaster of paris, metallic paints and toxic materials are being immersed in lakes which are a huge threat not only aquatic life but also the city dwellers who use this water unknowingly.

With campaigns on the row about eco-friendly Ganesha idols, these are on a rise in Hyderabad this year. The concept of “Tree Ganesha” is one of the brilliant ideas to reduce the water pollution. Originally created by Dattadri Kothur, an art director in Mumbai 5 years ago. The Tree Ganesha is a hit among the people. He crafts the idols using Organic fertilizers, Red soil, sprouts, and seeds. You are not only celebrating Eco-friendly but also planting a tree as well. The tree Ganesha is priced between 2,200 – 4,500 depending upon the size ranging from 9-18 inches. Currently, they are delivering idols in three cities- Mumbai, Hyderabad and Banglore. They deliver the idols to Hyderabad too, you can book them here.

Even our city based environmentalists Gouri Shankar and Vishala Gummaluru also took up the initiative of tree Ganesha through “Share a service e-Ngo”. Instead of immersing the idol in lakes you can do it at your home in a flower pot which in turn helps the environment flourish through a new plant. Pic source: Google
