Meet The Forgotten Indian Tennis Player Who Is Now Training The Future Stars!

Once a star player, holds the most number of titles by any Indian Woman Tennis Players and also played alongside Sania Mirza, Rushmi Chakravarthi is one of the renowned and finest tennis players the country has ever seen. Though she hasn’t received much recognition during her active days, she’s still continuing to nurture future talent for her country with passion and dedication.

Born on 9th October 1977, Rushmi was one of the promising tennis stars in India and she also holds the record for winning 45 ITF Circuit Titles, the highest number won by any Indian Woman Tennis player. She turned professional after playing the first round of WTA Tour Sunfeast Open Tournament held in Kolkata in 2005. Her biggest career highlight was winning four medals, of which two were gold at the 2003 Afro- Asian games. She has represented India at the Asian Games of 2002, 2006 and 2010.

She has also competed in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, where she progressed into quarterfinals and won the doubles bronze medal along with Sania Mirza. Later she continued her winning spree; Chakravarthi partnered with Poojashree Venkatesha to win the ITF event in Muzaffarnagar. In 2012 London Olympics, the duo of Rushmi and Sania were given a wildcard entry to play Woman’s doubles. Though they couldn’t bag any medals, they showcased a star class performance and received everyone’s admiration.

After retiring from the sport, she started her own Tennis academy, Precision Tennis Academy. It has always been her dream to open a tennis academy and train the players. She continues to stay by her passion and make people proud of her work.
