Sure, we are all about the engineering and medicine! There are even a lot of jokes about us. But let's be real. Telugu people do have a natural aptitude for Science and Technology. We did indeed produce some giants in the field of science. And there have been so many that we sought to list out the famous scientists and engineers from AP, Telangana who make us feel proud with their contributions. Here are some of them:
Yellapragada Subbarow, born in Bhimavaram, who discovered the function of ATP as an energy source in the cell and later developed methotrexate for treatment of cancer. Ironically, for all his sterling contributions he was denied a tenure at Harvard. He also discovered Hetrazan which was used against filariasis.

Yelavarthy Nayudamma, born in a small village near Tenali. Graduated in Chemical Technology from BHU, He played a major role in setting up the Central Leather Research Technology Institute in Chennai, and also served as director general of CSIR.

D.Rajagopal Reddy, aka Raj Reddy, born in a small village in Chittoor district. Did his PhD from Stanford in Computer Science. He is noted for his work on AI, and did a lot of research during his tenure at Stanford, and later Carneige Mellon. Currently working on Universal Digital Library Project, and also awarded Turing Award in 1994 for pioneering the construction and design of large scale AI systems.

K.Lakshamana Rao from Kankipadu, Krishna district, known for his work in structural engineering, the Nagarjuna Sagar dam was due to his efforts as Union Minister for Irrigation. Elected 3 times MP from Vijayawada.

C.Radhakrishna Rao, born in a Telugu family in Mysore, famous for his works in Maths and Statistics. Described as a living legend by American Statistical Association, the Cramer Rao bound theory and the Rao-Blackwell theorem are among his best known discoveries.

Mokshagundam Viswesarayya, one of the greatest engineers ever, and one of the builders of Modern India. Born to a Telugu Brahmin family at Muddenehali near Bangalore, he achieved distinction during his tenure as Diwan of Mysore. The Krishnaraja Sagar Dam near Mysore bought prosperity to the entire region. Other great works of his, breakwaters at Vizag Port, flood control system at Hyderabad, Bhadravathi Steel, Mysore Soaps.

Ayyagari Sambasiva Rao aka A.S.Rao, born in the village of Mogallu in West Godavari district. Post graduate in Physics from BHU, taught there for some time. Worked with Homi J Bhaba on cosmic ray research, and founder of Electronic Corporation of India( ECIL) at Hyderabad. The suburb where ECIL is located is named in his honor.

Pattipati Ramaiah Naidu, who founded the field of medical physics, was from Madanapalli. A follower of Aurobindo,he worked with Marie Curie and later worked in England under Patrick Blacket. In 1938 he joined Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, he set up the first Radium Extraction Unit in India. His daughter Leela Naidu from his marriage to a Swiss-French lady Ms.Marge, went on to become a famous actress, and was rated among the World's Most Beautiful Women.
