Telangana policemen topped in gallantry and other service medals on the eve of Independence Day. It was the only state police department in the entire country to secure the president's police medal for gallantry. Instated in 1951, The Indian Police medal is a prestigious decoration awarded to officers from the Law Enforcement departments of the country for distinguished service or gallantry. Gallantry takes higher precedence over service for these awards.
Sub-Inspector Duddekula Siddaiah and Constable Chougoni Nagaraju, who lost their lives trying to catch two Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) operatives in Nalgonda district last year, were announced as the recipients of the PPMG on Sunday.
Constable K.Srinivasulu has been honoured with Shourya Chakra for his brave act of catching the terrorist Alam Zeb Afridi in February at Bengaluru. This is the first time in the Telugu States that a constable has been honored with this medal. Over all Telangana policemen were honored with one president's police medal, two President's police gallant medals, eleven police medals for meritorious services, twenty four police medals for gallantry.
