12 Reasons Why We Absolutely Love Apna Hyderabad!

‘Hyderabad No.1 in quality of living, Mercer’s report says’, the article declares, in bold letters. But our triumph should be backed by authentic facts too, right? So why indeed do we love our city?

1. Low Cost of Living: Makes it easier for many migrants (we call them mehmaan) to live here.

2. Culturally vibrant: Hyderabad has a mix of all influences. Everyone is welcome here. A Kannadiga Shyam Benegal is as much a Hyderabadi, as is a Marathi Harsha Bhogle. We accepted a Bong Sarojini Naidu, as much as we did a Haryanvi Saina Nehwal.

3. The fooood!: Who can beat the biryani, the haleem, the Osmania biscuits and the Irani chai? No-beeping-body.

4. Our festivities: From the unique Bonalu celebrations, the colorful Eid nights, to Ganesh Nimajanam, each festival has its own vibrancy.

5. Our unique language:With multipurpose words like ‘baigan’ and ‘kirkiri’, very few things are as entertaining as watching a Hyderabadi speak.

6. Education: We have world class-education in the city with improved options for international schools. There are excellent centres for higher education too, like IIT, IIIT, ISB, and BITS.

7. Fixed movie ticket prices: Unlike other metros, where you have to dig deep into your pockets once the weekend comes, our city is particularly student-friendly with the fixed pricing. You can watch a movie at IMAX for Rs 250!

8. The ORR and the International Airport:These are two things that we can really be proud of. Truly modern and very effective pieces of infrastructure!

9. Ameerpet: Even Bill Gates will be amazed at the kind of computer courses on offer here, at such dirt cheap prices. You name it, they have it!

10. The Mind-blowing Architecture: Charminar is not alone here. It's accompanied by a gamut of historical structures like the Golkonda Fort, the Faluknama Palace, the Chowmahalla Palace, the Residency building...ohhh, cheppukuntu pothe enno!

11. Adventure Destination: The city is one of the best places to be in for adventure lovers. With the advent of clubs like GHAC, HTC, The Yacht Club of Hyderabad, you will never run out of things to do on a weekend!

12. Shopaholics' Haven: If it's a lazy Sunday, go shop at Koti's second hand book stalls. The ladies can go to Charminar and buy lots of stuff that they don't necessarily need. Laad Bazaar, Sultan Bazaar...even Chor Bazaar, we've got it all!

As much as we love the city, there are a few things we want to see changes in. Not all is well, my fellow Hyderabadis. Sacchi bolrun.

Buses. Yeah, we do have a lot of buses. But the whole system needs to be optimized to suit the city’s traffic conditions.

Greenery.Pollution goes hand in hand with the rising population. We could definitely use some(read, a lot more) trees. After all, ours was a city of baghs once.

Drainage systems. As soon as there is a hint of rainfall, the city’s roads get flooded with stinking water. An effective drainage system can surely avoid many accidents.
