With an area of around 839 Sq Kms, Pakhal is a major shelter that houses a variety of flora and fauna. Sometimes, if you're just lucky, you might even spot a tiger, bear, leopard or even a herd of deer frolicking freely here. The sanctuary is also home for mammals like panthers, hyenas, wolves, wild dogs, jackals, sloth bear, nilgai, porcupine, langoor; And reptiles like python, cobra, common krait, monitor lizard and crocodiles. You can find some wide variety of flora like Teak, bamboo, Flacourtia, Bombax Ceiba, Garuga Pinnata, Bridelia Retusa, Adina Cordifolia and etc., in the Pakhal Wild Life Sanctuary.

According to history, this fantastic lake was constructed by the Kakatiya Ruler, Ganapathi , father of Rani Rudrama Devi, in 1213 AD to quench the thirst of people in those days.
