After introducing Metro, Hyderabad is welcoming another project as part of the State government’s plan to improve connectivity. A monorail project for "Cyberabad" is being planned to cut down the time of travel in the IT hub of Hyderabad. A monorail is basically a single couch that goes on a single track. Compared to metro, the cost of construction and the space it takes up are really low. Cities like Mumbai, Pune and Delhi have already started utilising the services of these monorails.
In a meeting held on Friday, it was announced that they have already started working on the monorail for this area. This announcement is definitely bound to cheer the citizens of the city who are eagerly waiting for the inauguration of Metro Rail in the city later this month. This project is taken as the metro rail touches only the central parts of the city. Whereas the monorail will service a large part of the area and it goes beyond Cyberabad. The route of the monorail includes Gachibowli, Nanakramguda and Financial district. It is also proposed to cover the neighbourhood areas such as Tellapur and Kokapet also.
As far as the traffic and feasibility are concerned, the monorail would be the best and most efficient solution for a city like Hyderabad. With the increase of IT hubs in the outskirts of the city, the traffic in these areas has been increased to a greater extent. The rush hour traffic has become a nightmare for the city folks and the road and drainage infrastructure is just making the situation worse. The ongoing construction of a suspension bridge over Durgamcheruu has been put on the fast track and the surrounding roads are also being developed to quicken the process of introducing monorail. This would save up a lot of travel time. If this monorail project takes shape, Airport can be reached from Jubilee Hills Road no.45 in less than half an hour.
