So once again a woman achiever is in the news for a historic reason. J. Manjula of Hyderabad, has made her position as the first woman Director General in DRDO in its history of 57 years. Pretty sure, she’s the first of many more to come. She’s had us in awe with her and wanted to bring to you the awesomeness that she is. Let’s begin with a little history! She was born in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district to high school principal J Sriramulu. Being from a conservative background and from a time when girl's education was considered secondary, she bet the odds from the beginning. manjula 3 She studied her Electronics & Communications Engineering from Osmania University and now heads the Electronics and Communications Cluster of DRDO, a national organization, as the first woman to do so in the history of DRDO. manjula1 She joined DRDO in 1987 after working for some time in Electronics Corporation of India Ltd. So she has been a leading scientist at the DRDO for over 26 years and that is certainly something commendable. Manjula 5 Now for the fun part! She’s the one who developed fast signal receivers, high power RF systems, responsive jammers and controller software for the Indian armed forces for more effective communication. Badass, yes? Armed forces Also leading seems to be a thing she’s not unfamiliar with. She led the Defense Avionics Research Establishment (DARE), which is an establishment of DRDO, as a Director since July 2014 before assuming the recent position.
