Today is the birth anniversary of Dr.Prabhakar Reddy, one of the famous actors of Telugu cinema. In a long journey in Telugu cinema, he has acted in various roles as villian, supporting actor, character actor. An actor with a very distinctive voice, known for his dialog delivery. Here are some facts about him.
1) He was a real life doctor, did his MBBS from Osmania between 1955-60. His first role was as a psychiatrist in the movie Chivaraku Migeledhi in 1960, it was the Telugu version of the Hindi movie Khamoshi.
2) He was from Tungaturthi in Nalgonda district, did his education in Suryapeta.
3) Apart from being a well known actor, he is also a writer, wrote the scripts for around 21 movies, some of the more well known ones include Pandanti Kapuram, Grihapravesam, Gandhi Puttina Desam, Karthika Deepam.
4) He won the Nandi award for Best Story twice for Gandhi Puttina Desam and Gruhapravesam.
5) He also introduced Jayaprada to movies, in Bhoomi Kosam, in 1976. In fact he gave her the name Jayaprada, her real name was Lalita Rani.
6) Known for his Leftist beliefs, he wrote and directed Comrade in 1996. He also won the Nandi award for Best Actor, twice, for Yuvataram Kadilindi and Palle Pilichindi, both of them movies with a Leftist backdrop.
7) He also acted in many mythological roles, notably Karna(Pandava Vanavasam, Narthanasala, Sri Krishna Pandaveeyam), Dharmaraju(Daana Veera Sura Karna), Balarama(Krishnavataram), Dasaratha(Sri Rama Pattabhishekam) to name a few.
