This Hyderabad Software Engineer, Who Lost Her Leg In An Accident, Is Now India's First Woman Blade Runner!
If life pulls you back with difficulties, it means it is going to launch you into something great. Kiran Kanojia’s story is a perfect example for this quote. This 28-year-old is India’s first woman blade runner and her story inspires us to never back down and keep scaling new heights in life. She won her first medal in 2014 at Hyderabad Airtel Marathon and is now aiming to represent India at Paralympics. The champion athlete was even recently felicitated at NITI Aayog Women Transforming India Awards.

Kiran Kanojia is an Infosys employee in Hyderabad and lost her leg in a horrific accident in 2011. After the accident, she was depressed but then the news of Oscar Pistorius’ feats at the 2012 Paralympic Games inspired her to move on from the accident and become an athlete.

The traumatising accident happened when she was going back to her home on the train in Faridabad to celebrate her birthday with her family. While getting down, two men got on the train and tried to snatch her backpack, in this process she was pushed out of the train but her leg was caught up in the door. Next day when she woke up in the hospital ,on her birthday, she took the decision to have her leg amputated.

She recovered physically but her mental health began failing. Dakshin Rehabilitation Centre (DRC) helped her gain her grip over her life. She pulled the reins and with the help of Mohan Gandhi, she joined a running group with other amputees. Mohan was the one who suggested the prosthetic leg, she later tried on the blade. Even though she had problems adjusting to it initially, it became a part of her body and she started running. She said that she was never a sportsperson, even when she had her leg but after the amputation she wanted to run.

Her determination and grit did not let life pull her down and she rose above the obstacles she faced and came out of it as a winner. Her life is a true inspiration to all of us - letting us know that never go down but think of the positivity in you and achieve something big in life!
