Yes!! Human library do exists......It is now in our Hyderabad...Good to know right!! But, what does the word human library actually mean?!!
HUMAN LIBRARY: A human library is an event that aims to create a dialogue and understanding between people......
WHERE DID THIS START: The Human Library was developed in Copenhagen in the spring of 2000 as a project for Roskilde Festival by Ronni Abergel and his brother Dany and colleagues Asma Mouna and Christoffer Erichsen.
One of the creators, Ronni Abergel, realizing the potential of the idea, decided after the first event, to begin to work to promote the idea to potential new organizers. Since then he has founded the Human Library Organization, produced a guide to new organizers with the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Council of Europe. Traveled to many countries to help train new local organizers, plan launch events and present the idea to interested organisations and public authorities. Today it is estimated that the Human Library has been presented in more than 70 countries around the world, most of them in partnership with local organizers. In INDIA, one is at Indore and other one is at our very own Hyderabad..
HOW IT WORKS: There will be few people who are the HUMAN BOOKS and the readers can select one human book and have a talk with them for approximately 20 -30 minutes....... The main motive of this is to help people learn to appreciate others differences, and understand social barriers and privilege while listening and relating to their experiences.
WHO CAN BE A HUMAN BOOK: Only people who have experienced prejudice due to issues such as race, sex, age, disability, sexual preference, gender identity, class, religion/belief, lifestyle choices or other aspects of who they are, can be a Book.
At the Human Library Hyderabad events, every book has represented a social stigma/prejudice or stereotype. Isn't it interesting?? The best part of this human library is that you will never have an unanswered question as in the books....You have your book that speaks,answers to your questions and also listens to you.....
