Hyderabad Comes Up With "Water ATMs" Which Are Set To Provide Clean Drinking Water At Affordable Prices!

Hyderabad is always open in accepting unique ideas that have a long lasting impact on the people of the city. And, the latest one to fall in its category is Water ATMs. With Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) working on the idea of providing water ATMs in Hyderabad, first kiosk was inaugurated in NTR gardens by city Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, this Sunday. The idea has been well received in all the political circles. The idea has been propelled on the lines of cash dispensing automated teller machines (ATM) of banks along with the Rs 5 meal scheme in Telangana.

This system was already in use in places like Pune and Ghaziabad. During the inauguration, mayor mentioned that a similar 200 kiosks would be set up by GHMC by the year end. The intention behind the concept was to provide clean and mineral rich water. GHMC is planning to promote the scheme with the help of women self help groups (SHGs).

A water ATM kiosk will provide water at Rs 1 for a glass, Rs 2 per litre, Rs 5 for 10 litres and Rs 10 for 20 litres. The GHMC and Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board in collaboration with Joseph International and Nature Spring Eco companies started the project. The good thing being that there will be no chemicals used in the processing and there was no sludge formation. A long way to go!
