Here's How Hyderabad Is All Set To Become An "Emergency" Friendly City!

Hyderabad is one of the fast growing metropolitans in the country. With the pace it is growing in, emergencies can occur at any time and anyplace. The traffic conditions in the city and bad roads can often become nightmares in situations like those. The time lapse in shifting the patient from one place to another is killing more people these days. So TEDxHyderabad is aiming to make this city totally emergency friendly with the help of people’s knowledge, apps, and motorcycles.

TEDxHyderabad mainly focussed on three topics "108 Emergency Response", "Innovation in Medicine", "Healthcare delivery". Firstly, the quick responses of the 108 service and 108 call centers are analyzed. This was followed by a visit to LV Prasad Eye Institute to understand about healthcare innovation. Many likeminded people participated in this discussion and the need of the hour "emergencies" was discussed and various thoughts were suggested. Then again ideas are always suggested but what actually matters is that how much people are willing to respond in these situations.

So an NGO SAHE (Society for Advancement of Human Education) came up with an initiative to train people as first responders. The aim is to build 100k first Responders to make the city an Emergency Friendly City. They are hoping to make Hyderabad the first city in India to develop a pool of first responder volunteers to handle emergency situations, even before the ambulance arrives. They have also developed a module to collaborate with GVK and other hospitals.

Next is an introduction of technology in this process. All these trained responders are connected through a common app. In any medical emergency, a medical responder will reach the patient in approximately 3-5 minutes where an ambulance would take an average of 20-24 minutes. Another point is that a motorcycle could reach fast in the city’s traffic than four-wheelers. These two-wheelers will have a medical emergency kit that can be readily used. If everything goes as planned these two-wheeler ambulances will be available by 2018. And if all the above fall into place, Hyderabad will truly become an emergency friendly city very soon.
