Prakasam District, the name that came from a fierce fighter who participated in the freedom struggle, has to its credit some incredible things that you possibly didn’t know. And even if you did, they deserve some next level attention for their sheer awesomeness. Here are what amazed us Chai Bisketeers on our pursuit to know more about Prakasam District.
1. Ongole Gitta is internationally famous and is exported to USA, Mexico, Brazil, Malaysia. An island in Malaysia is named Ongole Island because of the sheer number of these oxen on the island.
2. Prakasam District’s Chimakurthy mines a specific kind of black granite called Galaxy granite that is not found anywhere else in the world! Look at the picture and you’ll know why exactly it’s called that.
3. The first ever poetic inscriptions of 9th Century AD were found in Addanki of Prakasam District.
4. Cumbum Lake of Prakasam District is the largest man-made lake in Asia.
5. Sri Lakshmi Chennakesava Temple at Markapuram, Prakasam District, is an architectural marvel. From 16th December to 14th January , the sun's rays at dawn fall exactly at the feet of the Lord’s in the Garbha Gudi. That’s some Indiana Jones scene right there!
6. You must remember Bhairava Kona from Magadheera but, there's an actual Bhairava Kona that exists here in Prakasam, and they’re 7th Century single stone cut caves. Amazing, yes?
7. Besides the obvious Tanguturi Prakasam, Prakasam district is home for many more gems like Johnny Lever, D Ramanaidu, Dharmavarapu, and Bhanumati garu.
