Here's Where You Can Meet Chitragupta, The Chief Accountant of Yama!
How often have we heard or been to Chitragupta’s temple? Probably zero times. Like seriously? Who visits for blessings of a god’s side-kick? Well, he’s no less than a God for many of them. Often considered as YAMA’s P.A. or thanks to tollywood for comic references in movie no one ever has taken him seriously. Not even the government! A 255 year old temple in city is left to its own without any support. Chitragupta, considered as the account-keeper of all the good and bad deeds in humans life who decides the destination after death i.e., hell or heaven doesn’t usually have temples built for him. The temple of Chitraguptha, the Kula Devatha for Kayasths is situated in Hyderabad, Chatrinaka. It is one of the very few and rare temples with historical reference dating back to more than 250 years. Located deep in the old city at Chatrinaka, The Chitragupta Mahadeva Temple" here is said to be a one-of-its kind temple in south India and is a rarity in the country too. “You do not find many devalayams dedicated to Chitragupta. We heard there are a few in northern parts but definitely not in the south and there’s no temple in both the states combined,” says a temple priest. Such historical temple is now left to its own and the government authorities are not considering it for any benefits or development programs to ensure its sustainability.
