Anurag Kashyap's Brilliant Movies On Streaming Platforms. Thank Me Later!

Anurag Kashyap has always been one of the most happening and talked about directors through the years. As Kashyap himself says, 'A man who has built a career out of torrents.' A lot of people (including me) have watched his older films on torrents (When streaming platforms didn't exist in India). He is clearly a contemporary filmmaker. And he has always stayed relevant all these years with his films. Each of his films tell an important tale of the society. And no wonder he's not just mine, But so many young people's favorite filmmaker. Here I list down his films & where to watch them online & few super interesting things about them.

P.S: The list is in reverse chronological order (Latest to Oldest release.)

1. Manmarziyan, 2018

Streaming on: Jio Cinema

Not the best of his films.. But a film that nobody would expect from Anurag Kashyap. The man who has made sooo many dark and gritty has fiiinally made a love story (which of course has his flavor and take in it.) Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee actually being Punjabis in real life makes it even better to watch them on screen in this movie set in Punjab.

2. Lust Stories, 2018

Streaming on: Netflix

In a series of Anthology directed by Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar. Everyone has to watch the first short for the very funny 'Mockumentary' style of filmmaking.

3. Mukkabaaz, 2017

Streaming on: Jio Cinema

There's an interesting story about how passionately this movie is made. Vineet Kumar Singh, The lead actor in the film, actually wrote this story. He went to several production houses and narrated the story, All of them liked the script and said 'We should make the film with a big star hero'. But Vineet himself was so passionate to act as the lead, that rejected those offers and finally went to Anurag Kashyap. That's when Kashyap told Vineet to actually become a boxer. Vineet then took a 2 year training with real boxers across the country.

4. Raman Raghav 2.0, 2016

Streaming on: Netflix

One of the most weirdest, grittiest 'Police & Donga' story you'll ever watch. This is the very next film of Vicky Kaushal after 'Masaan', In which we saw his as a cute and sweet Deepak Mishra. And to see Vicky transform into a beast for this one is quite a shocker. Also everyone has to watch this movie for Nawazuddin Siddiqui's psychic performance.

5. Bombay Velvet, 2015

Streaming on: Hotstar

A film that changed his career. In a bad way. What's sad and weird this is the movie with biggest stars cast ever in a Kashyap's movie. Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma.. even Karan Johar acted in the film. But heyy, Bombay Velvet has one of the best jukeboxes of Hindi cinema in recent years.

6. Ugly, 2013

Streaming on: Prime Video

This is my personal favourite film of Anurag Kashyap ever. And according to me, This is one of the darkest Indian films ever. And to know why exactly I'm calling it so dark, You have to watch the movie. There's this looooong and unending (but weirdly interesting conversation in the police station (I don’t wanna spoil, So won’t reveal for those who haven’t watched).

7. Bombay Talkies, 2013

Streaming on: Netflix

First of all, Yes! Bombay Talkies and Bombay Velvet are different films. Bombay Talkies is also an Anthology (Lust Stories is a sequel to Bombay Talkes with a different theme). The theme is FILMS! And just like, Lust Stories.. The very last LINE in the short film. Frikking genius and funny.

8. Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2 2012, 2013

Streaming on: Jio Cinema

Mooost famous film series of Anurag Kashyap. A series that almost everybody has watched (At least started watching). If Kashyap is in limelight it's probably because of this GOW series. Faizal, Sardar, Definite, Nagma, Sultan, Qureshi.. All the characters will grow on you. After so many years, This is the film that represented India at Cannes film festival.

9. That Girl in Yellow Boots, 2010

Streaming on: Netflix

Again, A film so dark that you wish you forget what you've watched. When director Anurag Kashyap and actress Kalki Koechlin introduced "That GIrl in Yellow Boots" at its New York premiere at the Asia Society, Kashyap nervously said, "I hope you feel the film, because you will not enjoy it."

10. Gulaal, 2009

Streaming on: YouTube

In an interview, Kashyap reveals that this film was shot in real locations near Rajasthan. And it took almost 4 years to shoot. 4 years for 1 film!

11. DevD, 2009

Streaming on: Netflix

As Anurag Kashyap's fans say, 'This is a modern day adaption of Devadas'. As modern as it could get, DevD is trippy film. Also, this is Amit Trivedi's one of the best albums till date.

12. Return of Hanuman, 2007

Streaming on: YouTube

Yep, I'm as clueless as you are. OK. Let's leave it here.

13. No Smoking, 2007

Streaming on: Zee5

If you see any listicle with 'Best mind**k psychological thrillers in India'.. It definitely features this film. 30 minutes into the films you'll not understand anything. But slowly it grows on you.

14. Black Friday, 2004

Streaming on: Hotstar

His first film (While Paanch is considered unreleased) is still considered as best film by many of his fans, and I agree. Imagine dealing with such complex subject back in 2004.
