1. Population Hyderabad stands fourth in India with a population of 6.8 million. The top three populated Indian cities are Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.
2. Buddha Statue Buddha statue at Hussain Sagar lake is the largest monolithic statue of Gautam Buddha in the world. The statue is 18-metre high and is located in the middle of the lake. The statue was chiseled out of a white granite rock, weighting 450 tons, by 200 sculptors in two years. It was a dream project of our former Chief Minister Late N T Rama Rao that turned reality by 1992.
3. Home for artificial lakes Hyderabad is home to some of the most beautiful artificial lakes in the world with lakes such as Hussain Sagar, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar being created by dams on River Musi. Also, did you know that Hyderabad's Hussain Sagar is Biggest Heart shaped lake in the world (when viewed from top).
4. Kohinoor The real identity - the Koh-i- Noor (the “Mountain of Light”) , which was once the largest known diamond in the world, was originally mined in Kollur mines of Andhra and then had its way to Golconda fort. Golconda is famous for producing some of the world’s most valued diamonds like the Hoe diamond and the Darya-i- noor.
5. HICC Hyderabad has Asia’s biggest and one of the World’s biggest and best Convention centers “HICC – Hyderabad International Convention Center”. It is constructed by Emaar MGF of India owned by United Arab Emirates. with 5,000 seating capacity and 291,000 square foot area, it is India’s largest and the most technologically advanced convention facility. It is an integrated facility with a 287-room- capacity business hotel, Novotel Hyderabad, covering 15 acres.
6. Biryani Hyderabad is synonymous with Biryani. There were originally 149 varieties of Hyderabadi Biryani. Biryani was introduced when Mughal emperor Aurangzeb conquered south India. The blending of Mughlai and Telugu cuisines in the kitchens of the Nizam, resulted in the creation of Hyderabadi Biryani and apparently 149 varieties of biryani used to be prepared in the kitchens of Nizam.
7. Tele- Density Hyderabad is India’s most connected city with the highest Tele-density. Tele-density is the number of telephone connections for every hundred individuals living within an area.
8. City of Engineers No other city in India has the ability to produce Engineers as much as Hyderabad did. Having more than 350 Engineering colleges, nearly 50 thousand engineers are being graduated every year from different colleges. Smh!
9. Snow Theme Park Developed and conceptualized by Ocean Park Multi Tech Limited (OPML), Snow World has been recognized as the first snow-themed park of the country. Spread across an area of 17,000 square feet, Snow World is apparently the biggest snow themed park in the world. When launched, it was only the third such snow park after the ones in Malaysia and Singapore.
10. Fish Medicine Popularly known as “Chepa mandu or Chepa Prasadam” - it is given to treat Asthma patients. Having a history of 169 years, it was being distributed every year on Mrugasira karti. Thousands of people from all over the country head to Hyderabad to get a dose of a miracle medicine.
11. Prasads Imax The IMAX Theatre in Hyderabad has the World’s largest screen and is the only true 3D screen in India. The screen is 72-foot high, 95-foot wide is accompanied by 635 seats and a 12,000-watt sound system. However, Prasads has now lost its IMAX status as it did not update its technology. Additional fact: 'Adventures on Mount Everest' was the first movie to be exhibited in the theatre.
12. Uber Force Taxi hailing app Uber's second-largest engineering workforce outside San Francisco is in Hyderabad.
