Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman, the orchestrator of Indian cricket’s changing tide from mediocrity to excellence, features vividly among our cricketing legends. Our first memory of him will always be his 281 against Steve Waugh’s Australia in 2001, back when we were starry-eyed kids who gaped in awe at the TV screen. Yes, it broke various records. Its larger impact, though, was instilling a belief and character which the Indian team previously lacked for decades.
The man’s name still sends a collective shiver down Australians’ spines. Yeah, he is very, very special to the whole nation and not just to us Hyderabadis. But personally, he is our pride!
