Finally, the Indian Cricket Team (Women’s) is finding their ground within the ever growing shadow of Indian Men’s Cricket. Here’s how once a humiliated, un-cared and side eyed sports team of a cricket loving nation is making big and winning hearts throughout the world.
In a country where cricket is more than a sport and cricketers are demi-gods it doesn’t come by as surprise when someone worships it as a religion. But, what about the other side of the coin? “Women’s Cricket”?
In a long conflict for recognition and glory the sports world apathy towards this team continued throughout their journey. Not even a world cup final in 2005 could change their fate.
The sad state of this team was witnessed in 2016 T20 world cup when the men’s as well as women’s cricket teams played world cup in same venue but as usual it was all about men’s cricket throughout the news.
How did “we” realize that women’s cricket was a sport too? After a series win in Australia last year things started to turn around for them. The fact that beating a three time world T20 champion in their own ground was a huge thing for all of us.
Now? They have begun their ICC World Cup campaign 2017 successfully, beating England in their own backyard. With, MITHALI RAJ playing a captains knock and winning comfortably. The pride of our country Mithali Raj and her team have crossed the first hurdle successfully and are eyeing on the semifinal spot.
Here’s a brief look at the current XI
And? In the world of social media true heroes are never forgotten! With increasing support day by day and loud opinions, hope this reaches the “right” people and realize that women too are sports persons and “celebrities” who deserve the due credit.
