Telugu rowers made an impressive show by winning two silver and one bronze medals in the recent Asian indoor rowing championship and the Asian junior rowing championships in Thailand.
In Asian indoor rowing championship, Tejaswar Reddy From Andhra Pradesh won a silver medal in lightweight mixed fours and bronze medal in light weight men’s doubles. It was his first major event outside India.
He graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Kurnool. He currently serves for AP police service. His father, K. Venkatrami Reddy is a farmer in Orvakal while mother K. Krishnavenamma is a housewife. The next big events for this young rower are the Open Nationals and the All India Police water sports meet which are to be held soon.
2010 Asian Games gold medallist Bajrang Lal Takhar is a huge inspiration for this young champion who mastered the basics at the Hussain Sagar Lake like many rowers in Hyderabad.
And in the Asian junior meet, D. Sai Raju of Telangana and Nikhil Goliyan of Haryana won the silver in the men’s junior pairs category. It was a phenomenal show by the Indians and more particularly Sairaju, who is studying in the standard XI.
Sairaju has won silver medals in the senior Nationals that were hosted in Hyderabad during Jan’16. He began rowing three years back as a sub-junior after joining the Sports School.
