Ever since the pandemic has started, A lot of people have lost their jobs across the world. Times have been tough on most of us. So Google has come up with a brilliant employment platform.

Kormo jobs:

Google has announced the official launch of its employment app, Kormo Jobs in India .

It allows job seekers to find and apply for positions across the country. 

Initially piloted in Bangladesh in 2018, it was subsequently expanded to Indonesia last year. Kormo, which means ‘work’ in Bangla, is currently available in India, only on Android.

With this, India becomes the third country after Bangladesh and Indonesia, where Kormo Jobs has been launched.

This is what Google has said:

‘Since we launched Kormo in Bangladesh in 2018 and in Indonesia this year, we’ve connected over 50,000 job seekers to jobs from hundreds of employers who use Kormo for their hiring needs, specifically entry-level jobs.’

Initially, In India, the job search option was available as a feature in Google Pay app under the brand Jobs as Spot.

Now, there is a dedicated app, and the search giant will rebrand the previous feature as Kormo Jobs. 

Google also said,

‘In the wake of the pandemic, the jobs landscape stands altered, with demand shifting to new services that require different sets of skills and experience,” said Google India’

‘Encouraged by this momentum and to lend support to employment efforts in a post-pandemic world, we are bringing our Kormo Jobs Android app to India to help even more job seekers discover and apply for jobs across India with an additional gateway,’

Google also mentioned how Zomato and Dunzo have found the job matching algorithm effective and have posted over 2 million verified jobs on the platform. So far, the app has more than 1 million installs on Google Play store. 

It is worth noting that the latest launch comes at a time when the majority of the business and companies impacted in India due to Covid-19 have been resorting to continuous layoffs to conserve capital.

According to the latest data, provided by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, 5 million salaried people lost their jobs in India in July, while a total of 18.9 million salaried jobs have been lost since the onset of lockdown in the country.

Here’s how to use the Kormo:

The app is available in 11 languages, including English, Hindi, Gujrati, Bangla, Marathi and Telugu.

Sign-in using Google account. Select the type of jobs based on your skillset and preference. Select location or allow the app to use location service to find jobs near you. 

Update your profile. You can upload resume, add work experience, education details, references, and language to improve your profile.

Besides listing available jobs, the Kormo app also offer content to learn new skills. Scroll down on the app’s home page to find ‘Learn new skills’ option and tap on view more to get complete list of available resources that may help one learn a new skill or upskill the existing one.
