Good news for fitness enthusiasts in Hyderabad. They will now be able to work out in lush green surroundings with fresh air. The GHMC has recently thrown open several Open-air gymnasiums located in the parks of the city. An open air gym offers people with a truly holistic fitness experience. These gyms will have state of art exercise equipment installed at selective parks that are developed and maintained by the GHMC. The space available in these parks can be used for combining cardio and strength workouts. Not only does these outdoor gyms have decent exercise equipment, but it also comes with the benefit of getting that much-needed vitamin D from the early morning or late evening sun.
A few popular parks were chosen for the pilot. These include Indira Park, Lower Tank Bund; Imliban Park, MGBS Station; AS Rao Nagar Park, AS Rao Nagar; Gulmohar Park, Serilingampally; Krishna Kanth Park, Yousufguda and Nehru Nagar Park, West Marredpally.
The equipment in these parks include fitness machines like Air Walkers, Air Swings, Parallel Bars, Cross Walkers, Pull Chairs, Horse Riders, Sit up Stations, Rowing Machines among others. These machines are suited not only for reaching the required fitness levels, but can also be used for medical and health treatments for joint problems and aches as prescribed by medical practitioners. The equipment being supplied for these parks is suitable for all age groups. The specially designed equipment, imported from Turkey, help users work out their upper and lower limbs, leg and arms, and waist. All machines are tamper and weather-proof and are clamped onto concrete slabs across rubberised tiles, making it impossible to move them manually.
The GHMC said it had received phenomenal response from those using existing outdoor gyms and had decided to extend the facilities to more areas. The ease of accessibility and free usage may help motivate Hyderabadis towards a healthier lifestyle.
