The Story Of How One Man's Vision Is Inspiring Several People To Do Their Bit For The Environment!
(article by Nagarjuna Sai) Meet Vijay Ram who is known as “Paryavarana Premikudu”. He is one of the few people who actually cares about the environment we live in and strives to do something to protect it. Rather than just giving speeches on global warming, he’s fighting against all odds and doing his bit to stop it. Vijay Ram is not only creating awareness among people but is also showing the means to curb this menace. Apart from these things he is also an avid follower of Subash Palekar. 2(2) ZBNF: “Zero Budget Natural Farming” is the process where cultivation involves totally natural methods and no kind of pesticides or chemicals are ever used in any of the steps involved in the making. With such a unique and farmer friendly concept, Padma Shri Subash Palekar has raised many eyebrows and is creating a vibe of his own among most of the southern and middle states in India. Vijay Ram was greatly impressed with this concept and started promoting the same in both the Telugu speaking states. He is conducting regular workshops, providing seminars and teaching the farmers on how beneficial this process is to them. He also distributes seeds to farmers every year free of cost including rice and vegetable seeds. 1(2) Follow them on Fb to keep track of their activities. S.A.V.E: Society for awareness and Vision on environment. This NGO established by Vijay Ram is the cornerstone of his efforts for the environment. They have been successful in taking their activities into the people and getting them involved as well. They have previously run various campaigns like “Nirmalam” Sujalam and etc which primarily focused on making the Urban areas cleaner and a better place to live in. Activities:Rain water Harvesting:- SAVE NGO apparently created 2000 rain water harvesting pits in Hyderabad alone and educates people on the importance of rain water harvesting pits. Women Empowerment: SAVE NGO Empowers women and gives them financial aid. They are encouraged to make paper bags and seed balls (preserving of seeds). Tree translocation: Trans-locates the tress that fall down during natural calamities or the ones that get chopped down during the road extensions Supporting Artisans: S.A.V.E makes an approx of 2000 clay Vinayak idols every year and makes them available in the cities of Hyderabad and Vijayawada. They promote the use of Khaadi to make weaving workers self-sufficient. S.A.V.E firmly believes that supporting artisans can bolster the Indian economy. 3(2) Awards: 1) Best bio-conservator, By A.P Biodiversity Board in 2007. 2) Green leaf award, Best NGO in Solid waste management in 2007, by Sukuki Exnora. 3) Best eco friendly practices, Institute of public enterprises. Hope Vijay Ram continues his deeds and meets his vision of making our society Eco friendly. Let us transform Urban areas to reflect Nature. Lets S.A.V.E our Nature and create a Society for Awareness & Vision on Environment (SAVE)
