5 Things you didn't know about this Guntur lad who is creating Badminton history!

Everybody just stop and applaud for this new kid on the block who’s taking the badminton arena by storm! NO, just look at him go!

Srikanth Kidambi, you are a rockstar already! He just claimed his title in the Swiss Open… AND HOW!

1. He made history by becoming the first Indian man to win the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold.

2. He ranks World No.4 at 22 while the founder of the academy he trains at (Pullela Gopichand) was at his career’s best rating (of No.5 btw) at 28!

3. Nope, he didn’t have a godfather or a background of badminton. His father is a farmer. His idol is Pullela Gopichand. He got to the top with sheer talent!

4. At the 2011 junior nationals in Jaipur, he suffered a disappointing loss. He bounced back in 2013 by beating the top seed, Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana at the Thailand Open.

5. He was bought by the Awadhe Warriors for Rs 21 Lac in 2013 and, along with PV Sindhu and Olympic gold medalist Markis Kido (from Indonesia), helped the team finish runners-up in the tournament. 2014 has been a special year for him, as he won the China Open with a 21-19, 21-17 win over Lin Dan.
