Hyderabad is all set to witness another architectural magnificence towering over the Cyber city’s skyline. Touted to be the ‘new age Charminar’ that will redefine the landscape of Hyderabad, IT Minister KT Rama Rao recently laid the foundation stone for IMAGE tower. IMAGE stands for Innovation in Multimedia, Animation, Gaming and Entertainment. The move is aimed at making the city a preferred global destination for animation, visual effects, gaming and comics industry. The first look of the IMAGE Tower was unveiled by KTR at the Nasscom Game Developers Conference late last year.
The iconic building will be coming up at Knowledge City in Raidurgam of Serilingampally. It will over a built-up area of 16 lakh sft at a cost of around Rs 945 crore. The project will be taken up on a public-private partnership mode. The design of the building has already started attracting the nation’s attention and is expected to garner international attention soon. The Tower is the symbolism of ‘T’ which stands for Technology and Telangana. “The 4 towers are symbolic of the transition of the city of ‘Char Minar’ to a vibrant new age metropolis,” said KTR in a tweet.
KTR said that the State government has identified animation, visual effects and gaming industry as a key growth engine for the next level of technology exports and employment generation. He went on to say, Hyderabad has over 100 companies, including VFX Studios, 2D, 3D animation and gaming setups, employing about 30,000 professionals. Close to $300 million worth of content is being developed in the city. The animation, visual effects, gaming and comic industry is growing exponentially and is expected to reach 3.12 billion USD by 2021, he added.
The state has been home to Blockbusters like Baahubali, Life of Pi, Arundhathi, Magadheera and Eega. The city also played a major role in the development of world’s most popular games like Farm Ville and Escape from Madagascar. The IMAGE Tower will be completed in about three years. It will have supporting infrastructure such as MOCAP, Green Mat Studios, Sounds and Acoustic Studios, Colour Coding and DI Studios, Render Farms, Data Centre, High Definition Bandwidth, Shared Software Services, etc. Once operational, the Tower will be the only facility in Asia Pac to offer all support services under one roof. According to TOI, the tower will also house common facility centres like sound and video editing as well as an incubation centre for the AVGC industry replete with all the requisite support services including a high speed telecommunication link as the volume of data transferred is multifold as compared to the IT sector.
IT Minister KT Rama Rao said AVGC (Animation, Visual effects, Gaming and Comics) will be introduced in all Fine Arts courses in degree colleges and university programmes. KTR further added that Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK) has been asked to create a separate curriculum for the AVCG sector.
