Hyderabadi’s can never get enough of Biryani. We all know that Hyderabad is the first place that comes to anybody’s mind when we hear the word Biryani. That’s how established the bond between Biryani and the city is.
A state-wise food analysis named ‘Stateatstics 2017’ was carried out by popular food delivery app Swiggy in various cities across India. It was found that Chicken Biryani is the most ordered food item online in 2017. Even though the world famous Pizza was the most searched food item of 2017, it did not even make it to the top 5 ordered food items. (Pizza was searched over 5 lakh times.)
In fact, Desi dishes like Masala Dosa, Butter Naan, Tandoori Roti, and Paneer Butter Masala are the rest of the dishes that shared top 5 positions along with Biryani this year. The most searched items include Burgers, Cakes, and Momos.
This survey was conducted in Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Leaving its mark on the calendar, December 3 saw maximum foodies order food online. Surprisingly Swiggy saw a single user order 1415 times in 2017. Which proves how online food ordering has become such an integral part of the lives of urban Indians.
Idly, Vada and Masala Dosa were the top picks for most ordered breakfasts of 2017. For lunch, not just Biryani (Chicken, Mutton, and even Veg), but Paneer Butter Masala and Dal Makhni were also frequently ordered. Pav Bhaji, Samosas, and Chicken Burger were the most preferred top evening snacks. And for late, and midnight cravings Biryani again made it to the top along with French Fries and Butter Chicken. In Hyderabad, Biryanis were ordered the most in the months of June and October, possibly owing to the festivals of Eid and Diwali.
Apart from Hyderabad, Kolkata also ordered most number of Biryanis along with Fried Rice and Kachoris. Mumbai ordered most number of Vada Pav’s, Delhi ordered most number Daal Makhni’s.
Another interesting trend that was observed this year was, Many people opted to choose healthy food over the junk food. Fruit Bowls, Chinese Food Bowls, Mexican Rice Bowls had a great demand. Lastly, when it comes to Sweets, Indians showed their affection towards Desi sweets like Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai more than Chocolate Puddings.
